Paying to be listed….

Is it worth paying to be listed at the top of search engines ?

Almost all the search engines now will allow you to pay to be listed at the top for keyword searches.

Has anyone out there actually done this ?   Is it worth it ?   Did you actually get results for the money you paid ?

Please send me feedback as I want to pay to be listed but I just do not want to throw my money away.
